Simple Tips to Keep Your Home Looking New Longer!

The process is finally over. You've closed on your house and you can finally move in. You may believe that your relationship with your builder is over. However, this is not the case with Brennan Builders. Brennan values their relationship with you, and we care about your new home. We always want it to look the way it did when it was built. This is why they have provided you with helpful hints in keeping your home looking brand new. These easy to follow home maintenance tips are simple, sometimes overlooked, tasks that can drastically improve the appearance of your home.

 

Clean out gutters and downspouts regularly.

            Clogged gutters can lead to water and ice build up which can be very harmful to your home.  Either clean the gutters out regularly or install gutter screens.

 

Check the insulation around pipes

            Piping in houses needs to be insulated to prevent them from freezing and breaking.  Simply checking the insulation now can save many hassles later.

 

Thoroughly clean around clothes dryer

            Lint builds up in the exhaust duct and also around the dryer.  This is not only a fire hazard, but this simple cleaning keeps your home looking new

 

Clean the kitchen air filter and exhaust hood

            Cooking grease and other airborne food particles build up in the air filter and exhaust hood.  Cleaning them regularly allows prolongs their life and also keeps them looking nice.

 

Check the furnace filter

            Check the furnace filter often and clean it or replace it when necessary.  This not only keeps the air in your home cleaner but it also improves the efficiency of your furnace.

 

Check all water hoses

            Over time, water hoses in the clothes washer, dishwasher, and refrigerator icemaker can crack and begin to leak.  Finding these leaks early can save a lot of money by preventing the probable water damage. Also be sure to drain all water from the hose bibs outside before winter so the water doesn't freeze and cause damage.

 

 Search driveway and walkways for cracks

            Fixing any problems early prevents them from getting bigger, and it also makes them safer.

 

Check soffit and fascia for deterioration

            Weathering can cause these elements to deteriorate which can lead to water damage.  Once again, fixing problems right when they appear can save many hassles later.

 

Check damage to roof

            Weather and tree branches can cause damage to the roof.  Even the smallest crack can amount to huge water damage so they should be fixed immediately.

 

Check wood decks and other landscaping elements for deterioration

            Weathering will cause these elements to deteriorate.  Regular upkeep will drastically prolong the life of these things and also keeps them safe.

 

Clean your chimney, flues, and fireplace damper regularly.

            Build up in these area are a major fire hazard which can be easily prevented.  Cleaning them and keeping them closed when not in use can also improve the energy efficiency of your home.

 

Check caulking on the roof.

           Caulking deteriorates quickly.  Simply re-caulking can prevent water damage and also prevent heat-air loss; thus improving the energy efficiency of your home.
